Open tenders for the development of mineral deposits in Belarus
Belarus conducts open international tenders for the signing of agreements to develop mineral deposits in March 2011.
Business projects have been developed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus, Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Belarus, Ministry of Architecture and Construction of the Republic of Belarus and other agencies with assistance of the National Agency for Investment and Privatization.
The business projects suggest:
• constructing a mining and processing plant to produce metallized pellets at the Okolovsky iron ore deposit;
• mining and processing brown coals at the Brinev, Zhitkovichy and Tonezh deposits;
• constructing a coal mining company and a coal-fired power plant at the Lelchitsy brown coal deposit;
• developing the Turov and Luban oil shale fields;
• developing the Sitnitsa deposit of building stone;
• developing the Petrikov deposit of potash salts together with building up of ore mining and dressing complex.
The projects have substantial government support and are aimed at satisfying the needs of the steel and construction industries in raw materials and also the needs of the country in hydrocarbon raw materials and related processed products.
The projects will be implemented in line with the following scheme: project engineering, construction, financing, and operation.
The tenders will be based on the principle of transparency and compliance with international standards.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection will act as a coordinator of the projects. The projects will be implemented on a tight schedule. There are plans to sign necessary agreements by the end of 2011.
